Starting a website with Bluehost takes less than 20 minutes, costs hardly anything and can be done by an 82 year-old. It only takes a bit of plugging on social media to get your first visitors, and there are plenty of ways to monetise your site.
Directors for TV and film are always on the hunt for houses to film in. For instance, a scene for Coronation Street was recently filmed in the student house one of the Save the Student editors used to live in!
One last quick thing to note before we dive in: I’m going to be talking a lot about your niche for every way of making money online that we cover here. If you’re unfamiliar with this term, all it means is your unique topic, angle, market, audience, or voice that will make people stand up and notice your business.
Eighty percent of affiliate programs today use revenue sharing or pay per sale (PPS) as a compensation method, nineteen percent use cost per action (CPA), and the remaining programs use other such as cost per click (CPC) or cost per mille (CPM, cost per estimated 1000 views).
I also do affiliate marketing here on the Smart Passive Income blog, sharing many of the tools and services that I use to run my online businesses, and if you or anyone else purchases through my affiliate links I earn a commission. If you’ve purchased from my links before, thank you so much! I greatly appreciate your support!
Monetize a hobby. While some hobbies actually cost money, others can be transformed into a profitable business venture. Ultimately, it depends on what your hobby is and how talented you are. You could turn your love of photography, for example, into a part-time gig taking family portraits and wedding photos or selling prints on Etsy or at arts fairs.
Start creating content by curating pictures, stories and ideas from platforms such as Reddit, consider using ahrefs to reverse engineer top content from viral sites too adding your own share-worthy headlines and captions.
I have talked to several bloggers about how much money they earn through affiliate income, and the answers still surprise me. There are bloggers out there with millions of visitors who aren’t making affiliate income.
Thanks, Anna! That’s another great tip! I have several friends who’ve started their own small photography businesses and make some nice cash on the side of their jobs that way. I’ll have to write about photography as a side hustle soon!
This is the most basic type of Facebook post. A text-only post can’t direct people to your website or drive conversions, but it can be used to spark engagement on your Page. Asking a question can be a great way to get people involved, like author and speaker Brian Tracy did in this text post:
I do agree with you that some bloggers are heavy on the affiliate links and product promotion, but when that’s the case and I feel like they have little else to offer, I simply move on and find another blog that provides a bit more meat. Thus my mantra to myself (and all bloggers): Be helpful! 😉
Luke Kling started blogging in 2004 and is now the Affiliate Manager for PeerFly, Inc. PeerFly is an affiliate ad network that uses custom-built software. His blog is separate from PeerFly, Inc. but it still provides more than enough advice for affiliate marketers. For example, Luke has created The Affiliate Marketing Guide that shares tips on getting started and how to successfully run marketing campaigns on Facebook.
I’d really like further input on this as this is one thing I have struggled with since starting a blog. I signed up with a lot of the affiliate networks but since starting my blog and really getting my feet wet with affiliates, I was able to truly grasp how many of the “great deals” I found on other blogs were just affiliate links. It was really discouraging to me personally, because here I was thinking that the blogger was finding all these great deals and wanting to share them with others, and then I realized that they get them emailed to them daily and get paid for getting us to sign up. I’m not saying I don’t think a blogger should make money from affiliates! However, I was personally discouraged after realizing the amount of affiliate posts that I’ve seen on other blogs, and it makes me not want to post any on my own blog. I eventually realized that one of my favorite blogs was practically posting affiliate posts all day long. I dunno, what do you think? Am I even making sense? 🙂 Maybe you can help me think about all this affiliate stuff in a different light!
On the long term it might even be more effective because people are starting to know that email-gated content is for lead generation and it may be becoming a barrier for some leads out there… So why not helping with free content through a facebook ad and trust these potential leads on a longer term. Well I get your point and you get mine anyway I guess 😀
Add affiliate links in your content. One great way to get paid a commission without appearing to sell anything is add affiliate links within your content. That way, when people click on the link, they’re taken to the company site and, if they buy, you’ll earn a commission.
hi finch, looking to start in the affiliate marketing just as extra income for an engineer student who still has papers to clear, and time to invest. my comfort zone shouldnt be above 100, because i dont have any money to invest in this. So where should i start?
PID (publisher website ID) is used to identify the publisher’s website. A CJ publisher may have multiple PIDs under one single CJ account (e.g. if you maintain multiple websites, you will have multiple PIDs).
Take a look at some paid survey websites listed below. At all of these websites you not only earn some extra cash, but also get rewarded through gift vouchers, prize drawings, free products, etc. All of these sites are free to sign up and use. Heads up: If any survey site asks you to pay, they are probably scams.

To avoid this headache, decide on frequency specifications during ad creation. Set the frequency by telling Facebook how many times an ad should show up for each customer, let’s say five times. Then set the action. This tells Facebook what you want it to do once five views have been reached. Set this to “turn off all ad sets” so that the ad stops showing for each customer once the limit’s been hit.
I have firmly shifted my belief that starting off with a small, low-investment website is one of the best ways to make your first foray into “passive” income (I hate that term). No matter what way you spin it, internet business is always going to take trial and error.
In February 2000, Amazon announced that it had been granted a patent on components of an affiliate program. The patent application was submitted in June 1997, which predates most affiliate programs, but not PC Flowers & Gifts.com (October 1994), AutoWeb.com (October 1995), Kbkids.com/BrainPlay.com (January 1996), EPage (April 1996), and several others.
What are dividend stocks? They are just like regular shares of stock, but with one exception: For every share of a dividend stock that you own, you are paid a small portion of the company’s earnings. Basically, you get paid just for owning the stock! If you are looking to get started with dividend investing, check out Ally Invest. Their site is beginner-friendly, while still giving you plenty of ways to get started with dividend investing.
It is not any secret way to make money. Almost all the bloggers are doing this. I am very disappointed with the length of this post and value given. May be helpful for someone but not me. Anyway thanks for you time.
I learned my Pinterest strategy from the best, Rosemarie Groner from The Busy Budgeter. She is a Pinterest consultant and helps bloggers increase their Pinterest traffic tremendously. Because I am a huge believer in how Pinterest can help you to improve your affiliate income, I asked Rosemarie to share her Pinterest strategy for my course as a guest instructor lesson. She charges $136 for her Pinterest Strategy Guide, but you get it for free with Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing! I use this same exact strategy for Pinterest, and it has helped to increase my traffic tremendously. This strategy has allowed both her and I to receive hundreds of thousands of visitors from Pinterest each month, significantly improving both of our affiliate incomes.
Keeping them separate allows you to optimize your ads, bids, and conversions based on device. Your ads and calls to action are likely to perform differently on desktop than they would on mobile, so your ad setup needs to fact that in. If you’re using the Power Editor to design and build your ads, then you can choose the device targeting on the ad set menu.
Websites aren’t too dissimilar to stocks. Many are junk, but some can generate serious income for you, making buying an existing website a strong potential idea for making money online (if you have an eye for spotting the diamond in the rough). You can buy and sell websites in the hope of generating future earnings based on their user traffic, current revenue intake, domain name, or some other factors that might be a hidden cash cow everyone else has overlooked. Interested? Check out marketplaces like Flippa and Flipping Enterprises to learn more.
For artists and designers who want to put their portfolios online, sites such as Behance or Houzz work great for showing off previous work, Larsen says. You can share your handyman know-how on Takl or advertise a variety of skills – from home organization to life-coaching – on Thumbtack. Upwork is a common site for promoting your skills as a freelancer. Fiverr is another option for freelance work, but Larsen cautions that there’s stiff competition on the site from international workers, who can charge less for similar work. Traditional job-search sites such as Glassdoor, Monster, Indeed and your industry-specific job-search websites will have postings for remote or online work.
